Institutional Investment Research LLC (see: www.institutionalinvestmentresearch.com), is a private, independent, economic research firm serving institutional investors worldwide.  AlphaReturns.com is a wholly owned subsidiary of Institutional Investment Research formed in January of 2007 to provide professional, institutional level investment analysis for individual investors, certified financial planners, and independent financial advisory firms.

Over the years, we have studied the investment returns of individual investors as well as portfolios recommended by major banks and brokerage firms.   Our studies show that most bank and brokerage firm portfolios are too heavily weighted toward stocks and not diversified enough with bonds, real estate, and commodities. Our research has also confirmed the existence of long cycles where stocks (equities) outperform fixed income and real assets like commodities and real estate over multi-decade periods only to be followed by multi-decade periods where real assets and fixed income outperform stocks.  In fact, U.S. stocks returned virtually zero during the following periods of time: 1881 to 1900, 1929 to 1954, 1968 to 1982, and 1998 to 2010.  (see: 100 year chart of stock market valuation cycles) These long cycles are primarily due to two factors: 1) the monetary manipulation of currencies and markets by government politicians and central banks creating boom and bust cycles through debt and inflation, and 2) the wide swings in investor sentiment that tend to elevate bubble asset valuations to higher highs and subsequently force bear market valuations to lower lows.  It is very important for investors to understand where the markets are at any point in time in relation to these asset valuation cycles(see chart of gold and stock market cycles)  Many of today’s financial advisors choose to ignore or are not willing to accept the fact that these asset cycles happened in the past and will happen again. Equipped with the tools of economic analysis and trained in the lessons of economic history, Institutional Investment Research and AlphaReturns.com are well prepared to provide a higher level of research and insight.
